A stone from Dachau

There is this thing about stones
They don't rent holes
They just lodge themselves
Little stones, cushioned between the sole and shoe
Making the leg a mobile rattle
No noise, just the constant irritation which starts feeling 'normal' even therapeutic after a while
So it was with Dachau.
A million atrocities
A million pictures
Heart-wrenching accounts of true history.
Memorials, barracks, crematoriums and even a 'REAL' gas chamber
But the stone was all that had my attention
Forgotten Gypsies, valiant Christians
Russians, Slavs, Czechs and Poles
All part of standardization routines
Too bad they could not survive the drill
Another picture
Another account
Another life cut short
The stone nudges,
My sole's all sore with the heat and stab
Dachau is the trendsetter
Where they stood 22 hours in the snow
Before roaring fires purified decayed flesh
History can be bought here at 8 euros a piece
Dachau, whose stone I carry in my shoe
A stone so tiny it lets me walk, but uncomfortably so...
